Buenos Aires, November 22 (NA) — Carlos Alberto Presti, appointed as the new Minister of Defense, is an Argentine Army lieutenant general with a solid military career and operational experience.
Presti was born on June 23, 1966. He trained at the National Military College, from which he graduated in 1987 as an infantry second lieutenant.
Throughout his career, he held key positions: commander of the IV Airborne Brigade, head of the 601st Air Assault Regiment, and director of the National Military College.
In international missions, Presti served as commander of the Argentine peacekeeping battalion in Haiti.
He also had diplomatic experience: he was a Defense Attaché in several Central American embassies.
Academically, he has advanced training: he studied at the University of Salvador and at the "Lieutenant General Luis María Campos" War College, where he specialized in General Staff, strategies, and organization.
He was appointed Chief of the General Staff of the Army by presidential decree at the end of 2023, in a high-level turnover that involved the retirement of 22 more senior officers.
His promotion was officialized by decree 119/2023.
